Coyote Fever Book By: Ray Milligan
My main motivation for writing this book is to fill the void of knowledge that surrounds coyote trapping. With the rising value of grey fur many obsolete books have been reprinted. But to date no one has compiled a modern methodical system to catch coyotes. It is my intention to do so in this book. My roots stem for Pennsylvania where I began trapping coon and muskrats in grade school. Later I graduated to fox, learning in the traditional eastern methods. Profits from fur sales helped pay my way through college where I educated in environmental education. After college I worked as a naturalist and an outdoor teacher, till bureaucratic frustration led me to pursue the life of a trapper. My time was not wasted through, as much "book" learned knowledge coupled with firsthand experience helped me to develop a greater understanding of predators and their behavior. Several years ago my wife and I came to settle in Kansas. My eastern fox trapping methods were very useful in coyote trapping, but the westerners had some different philosophies on trapping, especially coyote trapping. Combining the best of both schools of thought and traveling from Rockies and high Plains to the Gulf Coast, I've successfully caught coyotes in several states. Obviously, I've worked in a variety of environments, soil and weather conditions. To compile this knowledge from memory would be near impossible. So for the past five seasons I've talked to cassette tape recorder to preserve my coyote knowledge and present to the American trapper. It is my with that this hard learned knowledge applied properly will make you a top-notch "wolfer." My trapping success determines whether we eat beans or meat in this household, so much of this book is geared to commercial trapping. The part-time trapper can also benefit from these methods as his time is no less valuable than mine.
